Auto-foraging

Yes, yes, I know I can bind forage to a movement key or something like that,
but that's not what I want. =)

Anyone know of a way by which I can have my druid forage (/doability 3), bag
whatever he gets (/autoinventory), and repeat ad nauseum?

Ideally what I'd like to do is fire up my druid in a separate window, and
start him on the task of foraging whilst I raid or group on Monual.
Currently I have to switch windows to forage, and it may be some long
minutes before I can find the time to do - either I get too busy or I just
plain forget.

I've experimented with hotkeys, but they fail because you can't call one
hotkey from another hotkey. That's probably on purpose because otherwise
you could automate a whole bunch of stuff and SOE wants players behind
keyboards controlling characters. I can understand and appreciate the
philosophy, even if it makes things terribly inconvenient for me in this
instance. =)

Still, maybe there's something I'm overlooking. Anyone know of a way to
automate foraging and autoinventorying that would allow that to happen
automatically without my having to keep that window in the foreground?

Thanks.

You'd have to use either macroing, or something like the nostromo keypad.
EQ does not support a means of doing what you want in and as of itself.

Only one way. Run the toon on a different computer with nostromo keypad.
Been there Done that, this is the only way it works.

How do you get the macr to loop? There's doesn't seem to be an option for
it, only the option to repeat as long as the key is depressed.

This may sound stupid, but you could loan him out to PLing friends with the
provision that they keep foraging while they do it. Maybe set up a few INI
files (for spells and hotkeys, etc) with built in /doability #forage and
/autoinv after every heal/ds macro is run...

I have heard there is a controller (NS 52??) from Belkin which could be used
for this purpose but I have asked around here and noone locally sells it. I
prefer the SWG harvesters and macro-foraging to the EQ method, but otherwise
I'm aware of no method that'll forage and autoinv while you're afk. I am
confident that people use either macroing s'ware or controllers to macro.
Theres a guy on rodcet nife with hundreds of planar oaks he's foraged, and
that's really beyond a joke if he was supposedly there foraging.

At least if macroing was built into EQ, it would be a level playing field;
as things stand, non macroers can't compete in the bazaar against macroers.

Only way I can think of offhand is maybe MacroQuest. Most applicable
solutions I've seen (an autofire program or a gamepad) just emulate
keyboard input, which requires that you keep the program you want to
receive the input in the foreground. MacroQuest may be able to deliver the
commands to a backgrounded window (I really don't know, never used it, and
only suggest it here because it's the only solution I can think of).

I do know it's a trivial task to set it up if you have a second computer to
run the bot on, but that doesn't sound like the case here.

Another solution to consider might be making a hotkey like:
/pause timer, /doability 3
/pause timer, /doability 3
/pause timer, /doability 3
/pause timer, /doability 3
/t monual i need my hotkey refreshed!

and another hotkey with just /autoinventory a bunch of times to save
yourself some clicking. Would mean you'd have to switch back to that
window every 10 minutes or so (anybody know what the actual refresh timer
is on forage? Never bothered timing it), but would probably be within the
confines of the EULA.

Hey, that'd work... I didn't think about sending myself a tell to remind
myself to run the hotkey again. And you're right, I could just
auto-inventory four times quick, then click the hotkey again.

Thanks Devon, I'll give that a try. =)

Can you hold multiple foraged items on the cursor at one time? I know that
when I tradeskill items. I can get 2 items (ie the combine plus the
returned item) but was not aware that forage would allow that. I assumed
it would give you the "you can't hold another item" message.

Very interesting idea, and sounds like it may work.

Yep you can have more than one while foraging. Because of the way I have my
bard set up for kiting, I forage at the same time. When I am done I drop
anything that is foraged up. Uncommon with my crappy forage skill, but
there are times when I will auto-inv two foraged items.
