Discussion:
So, I hear the boats are back in EQ ? Is it nice having them back ?

I have been out of EQ for a few years but read a few weeks ago that
the boats were back ? I think I was, at the time, one of the very few
people in EQ who actually enjoyed the boats and the way they made me
feel that EQ was a world and not just a game. I was thinking of
resubscribing to EQ just to give them a looksy and was wondering if
anybody who has seen and ridden on the boats could tell me if they like
them and and how long it usually takes to travel on them ? Also, how
often do they run ? Is it dangerous to ride them in certain
areas...mob-wise, I mean ? (i.e. sharks and other critters)

Silly, I know. But I really missed those boats :)

The boats in the new zones seem to work fine, I use them off and on to get
to the new zones in TBS. Have not encountered any problems with them as of
yet.

It's a bit faster than original boats.

Also, how often do they run ?
Roughly every 10 or 15 minutes for Butcherblock to OoT run.

I haven't seen any differences. Mostly nothing bothers me as most mob
don't usually chase after someone 70 levels higher.

But some still fall into the water on zoning because they zoned slower
than the board, and miss the boat. Swimming time again!

Just FYI, they took out most of the translocators (maybe all?). Only
thing left are the magus for some zones.

I too enjoy having the boats, though I admit I wish they'd leave the
gnomes up as well so people would have a choice whether to enjoy the
ride or just bamf to the other end.

Anyway, SOME boats are back. The boats to/from OOT are back (and those
gnomes are gone), as well as the boat that runs the length of OOT.
The boat to/from Abysmal Sea was back for a while but seems to be gone
again at the moment. There are apparently boats in the Buried Sea zones
but I've never been there so don't know. (Correction: Went there last
night because a guildie was going to lead a group of us through a quick
hail-some-mobs task, but it turned out I can't even take the task at 67.
There's a *reason* I haven't bothered visiting any Buried Sea zones...)

The friend who got me started on EQ has always said I should ride the
icebreaker boat to Iceclad sometime, just to see it. Alas, the boat has
never existed in the game for me (I started during LDON, but don't recall
when I first visited Iceclad.) I went back to check recently and it's
still missing. I hope it comes back some day.

Just had the occasion to ride that one the other night. The boat model got
a bit of an upgrade, and moves *much* faster now, so that the trip is quite
bearable. The only problem was, with the OOT revamp, I couldn't remember
which stop was which, as I didn't recognize any of the islands, and ended
up missing my stop. :P
