Speeding up my slows

I am trying to find a focus item which will speed up the casting of my
slows (currently Forlorn Deeds takes 6 seconds to cast).

I looked on the Focus list on Allakhazam and it seemed that Affliction
Haste IV was the one I wanted. The details are:

1: Increase Spell Haste by 33%
2: Limit: Max Level(65)
3: Limit: Min Duration(30.00 sec)
4: Limit: Min Casting Time(3.00 sec)
5: Limit: Spell Type(Detrimental only)
6: Limit: Effect(Hitpoints allowed)

In light of this I bought a Ceramic Skull of Decay which has
Affliction Haste IV on it but it does not appear to have made any
difference to the casting time.

Did I get the wrong item? Can anyone suggest something that works?

Thanks in advance,

You need an Item with Spell Haste IV such as:

a.. Arantir's Sandals of Discovery

a.. Ceramic Totem of Xegony

a.. Cracked Bone Ornament

a.. Dumul's Sleeves of the Brute

a.. Elemental Slippers of the Prime

a.. Glowing Ore of Rapid Thought

a.. Half Spiked Sprocket

a.. Marsinger's Glimmering Gem

a.. Necklace of the Magistrate

a.. Shimmering Sleeves of Flame

a.. Silken Augmenter's Shoes

a.. Soulsip Sceptre

a.. Sparkling Necklace of the Chosen

a.. Tallon's War Charm

a.. Tormentor's Chain Collar

a.. Vorshar's Slippers of the Blight

and the effect is:

1: Increase Spell Haste by 15%
2: Limit: Max Level(65)
3: Limit: Spell(Complete Healing excluded)
4: Limit: Min Casting Time(3.00 sec)
5: Limit: Effect(Percentage Heal excluded)

On the one you got, it's for detrimental spells only and even though Slows
seem detrimental to you, they don't do any damage to the mob.

Affliction Haste applies to DoTs and not simply every detrimental spell.
Focus effects are funny like that, they use a bizarre idiom that has to be
translated through tribal knowledge. Try reading the followup threads below
the notes on Allakhazam for some of the interesting history and experiences
with the effects and the terminology.

Actually, Forlorn Deeds is classified as detrimental, but, it does not do
damage, which is another limit on affliction haste. Another
consideration, if availability of spell haste IV is an issue, Forlorn
Deeds is a level 57 spell, and thus only requires spell haste III. Mind
you the SH IV item would be better as it will work on all the spells that
SHIII works on, plus your 61 to 65 spells.

Affliction haste only works for dots.
You need spell haste 4. Think its ornate shoes or arms, not sure which.

Like the other posters said.
A small explanation of how to read the lucy code:

1: Increase Spell Haste by 33%
the effect. yuy.

2: Limit: Max Level(65)
Great, works for all spells.

3: Limit: Min Duration(30.00 sec)
Oh only duration spells. That limits it to: buffs, debuffs, dots (damage
over time) and hot (heal over time)

4: Limit: Min Casting Time(3.00 sec)
Not really fast spells then.

5: Limit: Spell Type(Detrimental only)
Ah another limit to the type. Only debuffs, nukes and dot's allowed here.

6: Limit: Effect(Hitpoints allowed)
Shees another restriction. only damaging or healing spells are allowed with
this one. That means: heals, nukes, dots and hots. Taking the other 2 limits
into account all you are left with is: dots.

It takes a bit of practice, but once you can read the lucy code it all makes
sense :).

I think this far it allows slows, in theory anyway, but...
Post by Xanthalas
6: Limit: Effect(Hitpoints allowed)
this means only spells that decrease the hit points of the target are
affected, and no slow except one of the bard slows do that, IIRC (and
bard songs aren't affected by focus effects, anyway).

Mages can summon a norent ring that gives up to 15% spell haste (except on
damage spells and heals, I believe). I never summon it because the stats on
it (around +20hp, +20mana) are horrible for an upper level player and nobody
wants to give up their regular finger slot for it. Getting a mage to summon
that ring may be a good way to test whether Spell Haste is going to make a
meaningful difference to your playstyle before investing thousands in a more
permanent item. If you are in the bazaar, you may want to do a search on
"summoned" and see if anyone is selling Naki's Spiked Ring or Naki's Studded
Ring.

This depends on the class and playstyle a lot. As an enchanter I grab
one of these rings whenever I can because it makes a *huge* difference
in getting a broken charm under control again. With it and BoR I can
almost always recharm before the stun wears off; without them I'm
definitely going to be taking a few hits and possibly failing to channel.

Of course I'm sure there are higher-end items that make it obsolete,
(ornate silk boots have the same effect, I think) but the ring's still
nice for those of us still stuck in pre-raiding limbo. :-)

Thanks for all your help folks.

I sold the Ceramic skull back for almost what I paid for it so I'm
happy :)

Time to go hunting for a Spell Haste IV item although I am going to
check out the mage summoned rings first.

C. Heide mentions another possible option in passing here. The cleric
Blessing
line (Blessing of Piety up to 39, Faith up to 61, Reverence up to 65) all
give 10% spell haste that stacks with the spell haste you get from items.
I understand that many clerics skip this spell - understandable, since it's
relatively expensive to cast and the effects are subtle. But it can be
quite worthwhile, and if the cleric has buff extension AA it can last
over an hour.

I'll repeat one point - it *stacks*, so with a 15% spell haste item casting
time is reduced by 25%, reducing a 6 second cast time to 4.5 seconds.
(It doesn't stack with the group version, Aura of Reverence, although you
do get two spell icons that way.)

If you have LDoN, by the way, there is a spell haste 4 augment you can get
in the Guk theme.

As an update to this, I got hold of a Naki's Spiked Ring (I think that
is what it was called) from a Mage friend of mine.

It cuts Forlorn Deeds down from 6.0 seconds to 5.1 seconds casting
time so it is well worth getting hold of one if you can't find a spell
haste Focus Item.
