It used to be worth fishing at Abysmal, until it was nerfed. Now it is not
so useful, though I am told there are one or two good spots.

Fishing skill can help with making fishbone darts... whici are a useful
LONG RANGE throwing itew. Very useful for monks. Arguably it could be
said that fresh fish could be used for fish rolls (but you can buy fresh
fish real cheap). For a while it was useful in Ocean of tears. I used
to get 40pp each for saltwater sea weed, but noone makes that armoe anymore.

Actually.. the human cultural its used for can now have a backend
benefit. Select pieces provide a good return on money invested for
tribute points(nothing uber-mindblowing), but you may get 500 'free'
tribute of which on a 20 combine run can get you 10K extra points
while still getting bumps.

Saltwater Seaweed is a bitch to fish in OOT for some reason due to old
world positioning. I was getting problems where you'd fish once.. and
then it would view you as on land and you'd have to try to reposition
fish once, same thing. Was not worth the effort.

Best way to combat that is to fish while levitating over the water.

You can also fish while sitting. That will keep you from moving, as well as
not costing you any bat wings.

Fishing is capped based on level. Not sure if the cap varies
by class; for my characters it's been the usual level*5 + 5.

There are various recipes you can make using fished stuff. See
www.eqtraders.com for details. There are also various quests
that use fished items. E.g., the 7th Coldain shawl quest uses
Iceclad Cutlassfish, fished from the Iceclad Ocean.

IMHO its only useful, when you want to make Blessed Rods for
Solstice Earring, prices for rods have become outrageous in
the last months on SolRo,between 1500 and 2000p.
I noticed this ,while twinking my alts number 6 and 7,yeah
I am insane. :)

So I reactivated my retired 55 Druid, sat him in PoG,took me
10 hours to max Fishing, while foraging 25 Branches of planar
oak.
Next, up to WW,foraging Dragon eggs, while hunting Velium hounds
for their furs.
Finally to East Karana, foraging Plains pebbles, while hunting for
cat pelts, spider silk,HGs and this Bandit on JPF-Bandit faction with
my Ranger.
This looks like a nice profite to me.

Yeah, but one of his Alts is level 65 with Time gear and 150 AAs. :-)

I've played off and on for about that long and haven't settled on a main
either. I suppose that currently it's Vich, since at 12 he's the highest
level character I have right now.

My highest level character ever was a 23 Iksar monk, but she was deleted way
back when.

Crocuta, 5 Vah Shir Berserker, Morden Rasp
Tanra, 4 Vah Shir Rogue, Morden Rasp

Maybe it was the 'Mel' that was the problem... Uland is the only
character without one... and its the one you like best ;p

A guildie has 16 alts (including his main) at level 51 or higher
(highest is 63). Plus a few more that haven't reached those levels
yet. That's insanity.

I have my main Aru, and between 2 accounts I have 1 of all 16 classes.

I have been chipping away in the mornings on my alts under 30 ...
yesterday got my baby chanter to 20 =) I work on my main, my berserker
and my ranger when my game husband is online with me. When I get all my
baby alts to 30, then I will concentrate on getting them one at a time
to 60. I figure my main and 2 main alts will get to 60 without any
special work on them in the course of regular playtime=)

I set up my warrior as my trademule in bazaar because I really dont like
playing her, so she isnt really getting played=) but I do have her=)

Certain cultural items needed for racial blacksmithing need essences that
can only be foraged or fished. If you are not a foraging class, that leaves
fishing.

Then there is the best reason to get good at fishing right here:
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=16654

You could buy the stuff for the quest, but that'd be cheesy. Fishing
in the two places for that quest will be an adventure of itself.

Well.. sometimes it can be profitable before a new expansion is
nerfed. For profit, you are talking Cobalt Cod(50-100pp per to
high-end tailors) out in Cobalt Scar. The only other moneymaker i know
of is making Blessed Fishing Rods for the Earring of the Solstice kit.
Fishing caps at 200.
