Flagged Zones and Locked Content - changing

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq/posts/list.m?topic_id=130431

Quoting,

As I'm sure most of you are aware, backflagging has been a hot topic for
EQ for quite a while now. The complex flagging mechanisms for older
expansions can make it difficult for guilds that take on new people to
experience the content they are wanting to do. With the sheer amount of
content between Qeynos and Crystallos it can be extremely difficult for
new players to catch up with their friends in any reasonable time frame.

So, in order to make it easier for players to access appropriate content
we would like to make some changes to previous flags. All of the
existing flags will stay in place, as will the various quest rewards
that were additional benefits to their completion. However, the
following zones will have an alternate entry criteria of a minimum
level. It's important to know that either the previous key OR the new
minimum level is required to enter the zone, not both.

Required Level 46

1. The Howling Stones
2. Old Sebilis
3. Cobalt Scar

Required Level 55

1. Veeshan's Peak
2. Vex Thal
3. Sleeper's Tomb
4. Locked areas of the Temple of Ssraeshza

Required level 57

1. Bastion of Thunder
2. Halls of Honor
3. The Temple of Marr
4. Tower of Solusek Ro
5. Drunder, The Fortress of Zek
6. Yxxta
7. Kod`taz

Required Level 60

1. Plane of Water
2. Plane of Air
3. Plane of Fire
4. Plane of Earth
5. Uqua
6. Ikkinz

Required Level 62

1. Plane of Time
2. Qvic
3. Inktu`Ta

Required Level 65

1. Txevu
2. Tacvi

End quote.

I see this different.
Anyone who thinks this is an advantage deceives himself.
How can taking content away be a good thing?
And you miss the feeling of satisfaction once you finished one
of the access quests.

One can easily make level 80 without ever entering those zones.
If you want access to these special zones then do your homework.

I'd be glad to if I didn't need 50 other people to help. I
don't mind tedious pointless busywork quests as much as I mind being
forced to beg acceptance into some kind of virtual country club to be
allowed to access game content my user fees support.

I have. I'd still like to see Time before they shut down the
last server. And no, I don't want to join a guild. If I liked company
I'd have been a cleric.

Looks like a brave step and one I'm happy with. Family life (2 children,
husband, cats and a full time job), means my time availible to wait on raids
forming, scratching because somebody didn't listen to instructions, waiting
to reform only to loose to main mob because lag dragged the main healers
down, has never been condusive toletting me get into the keyed zones.

As "the warf rat" says, it would be nice to see what my subscription fees
are being used for by seeing some of these zones. Seven years in the game
and there are some I've not been able to get to - so perma camping twink
farmers asise, these open zones can only help support the non-raiding crowd
and the benefitsdownfalls to the ubber guilds/players will be minimal, so
"grats" SoE for a decent line of supporting all your fee payers.

Does anyone ever actually bother raiding in these zones anymore?
Seems like content that is 5 or 6 expansions behind what is current would
likely be a total waste of time.

But what would I know, I defected to WOW during OOW.

Yes, some of us still raid those zones. I'm in a casual raiding
guild, so we often raid with only 15-20 people. We flagged our
way to the Elemental Planes just for the fun of it, and took down
some of the EP bosses until we got tired of backflagging new
members. We also flagged our way to Emp Ssra and Vex Thal, for
the fun of it. And even if they change it so everyone can zone
into Vex Thal, we still had fun!

if most people think opening up old, locked zones is alright, it's
either because they think no one cares about that content (so who
cares if it's free now?) OR because they think it's too hard for
people to earn access properly

but you, you're still doing that content - you should be the one who's
upset

and you're not, so that's great

seems sony's done something right for once (though as others have
pointed out, it's too little too late for some people...)

Someone who still does that content would probably be glad for the changes,
since now finding other people to come on the raids is going to be so much
easier. No more farming maidens eye for hours helping friends (who
subsequently run off to a higher guild)

There was a time when I would have agreed with you, but then again, there
was no need for this change back then. Now, it's nigh impossible to get
enough people together to help someone get flagged, even in a guild. The
player base has moved on to later content. Getting them to raid older
content is tough enough. Getting them to help with flagging *and* raid that
content is just more than the typical player can expect.
